American Pie Council’s Pie Learning Center Shares Insider Secrets to the Perfect Pie and More this April in Orlando

Featuring Workshops, Seminars and a Pie Party Open to the Public at this Year’s Annual APC National Pie Championships

ORLANDO (April 7, 2016) – It’s time break out the pie and grab a fork. Attendees don’t have to compete to enjoy this year’s 2016 Annual American Pie Council National Pie Championships hosted at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, April 29-30. Entrants and the general public are invited to enjoy dozens of pie-related workshops and activities offered by the Pie Learning Center on April 30 -- and of course, to eat pie!

A curiosity to learn and a taste for pie are all that’s required to enjoy this annual homage to the nation’s favorite treat. Free to entrants and open to the general public, the Pie Learning Center features a vast array of pie-related workshops, seminars and live demonstrations. Starting at 9 a.m., Chef James Gallo, Sasa DeMarle, walks attendees through the steps of making a tart.  Followed by Pie Decorating Tips from Chef Becky Wortman of Chef Rubber and many more demos.  There are tricks and tips for amateurs and professionals alike.

“There is such an exciting array of activities, break-out sessions and presentations from skilled professionals in the pie industry at this year’s pie learning center,” says Linda Hoskins, Executive Director, American Pie Council. “It promises to be an unforgettable weekend of celebrating pie and learning from the industry’s best.”

What pie championship would be complete without a pie party to sample all of the tasty creations? Saturday, April 30 from 4-7pm the National Pie Championships will host a Give Kids the World Pie Party, free to the public.

From apron runway shows to pie eating contests, an Iron Pie Chef competition and a 200 lb fresh fruit pie building, the party offers an exciting opportunity to search out the perfect piece of award-winning pie—as well as benefit children and families. $5 tickets provide each guest with two slices of pie, and beverages are available for purchase.  And of course, what would a pie party be without the announcement of the crème de crème of amateur and professional pie makers.  The nation’s top pie makers will be announced!

One hundred percent of the proceeds of the pie slice sales will go to the national charity Give Kids the World located in Orlando—a 79-acre nonprofit resort that provides week-long, free vacations to children suffering life-threatening illnesses and their families.

The only organization committed to maintaining America’s pie heritage, the American Pie Council continues to celebrate America’s love affair with the pie, passing on the tradition of pie making from generation to generation. The APC offers personal, professional and commercial memberships. For more information, please visit piecouncil.org.
