Although the weather kept many away, attendees had a pie-tastic time at Pie Town 2013. The morning started with 13 pies being entered into the Holiday Pie competition. Demonstrations started with Matt Zagorski and his son, Max, demonstrating how to make his award winning pie, When God Hands You Lemons, Make Lemon Pie. Chef Gloria Hafner, culinary instructor from the After School Matters program, led attendees through the steps of making fruit filled gallettes. Each attendee left with their own!
Dozens of Village Inn pies were available for the Pie Town Pie Buffet! Apple-Raspberry, pumpkin, lemon meringue, French silk, pumpkin supreme and more..... Cookbooks and t-shirts were available for sale as everyone anxiously awaited for the judges to conclude their pie judging!
Mary Pint, the Pie Lady from Bakers Square, had an interactive discussion about pies and gave away Bakers Square coupons and pies! Mary challenged the attendees to get Illinois to adopt pumpkin pie as their state pie. The APC has taken her up on the challenge and decided that since Illinois is the largest pumpkin producer in the state, Pumpkin Pie should be the state pie of Illinois. Francine Bryson, CBS' America's Baking Competition finalist, demonstrated how to make her chocolate peanut butter bacon pie, that got her a first place in CBS' competition!
